Installing openSUSE on Fujitsu Seimens Esprimo V5535
OpenSUSE is one of the most popular Linux distributions and sponsored by Novell and AMD. It is fully maintained by open source community inspired based on SUSE Linux version. The current version of openSUSE is 11.0 which have been released on 19th June 2008 (Download openSUSE here).
I installed openSUSE 10.3 on this laptop. After the cdrom read the installer cd, it showed the language selection, next the installation selection and then the loading Linux kernel.
Firstly, it asks the media check (checking installer cd) but it is an optional. It took around a minute to finish the media check process. Then it automatically probing the system hardware as shown in figure below.
Before the installation started, the network set up is performed. I used to ignore this process by unplugged the network cable, and resulted failure to access the network and internet after installation finished. Therefore, I suggest allowing this process and plugging the network cable to the router or switch.
After that, the installer automatically probing the system and list down the suggestion for partitioning and software or packages to be installed. User can use those suggestion or change with desired setting.
The installation process is performed after finishing formation the partition. Figures below show the installation process.
The user account is created after the system is rebooted when installation finished as figure below.
The system is now complete installed. I browsed and played around at the system. One thing that I realized is, the network is still problem with a weird condition. I can only access the google and google mail, not the other links. i have no idea why it can only access google link.
That’s all folks.
