Single Board Computer (SBC) Training

Alhamdulillah, all praise to Allah who gave the strength to share the knowledge He gave to me with the others. A training of SBC using TS-5500 model from Technologic System has been organized at FKEE, UMP on 14 & 15 August 2010.

Although the participant is only three person, but i satisfied and happy sharing with them the embedded system architecture knowledge in the open source environment. I believed that they can explain what is the major difference between microcontroller and SBC.

Yes to Pidgin

Now, i’m Pidgin user. After few times installing Yahoo Messenger (different versions) but failed, i remembered of this open source chat application.

Pidgin is an enchanced version of Gaim. It is a client. And now it run on Windows platform! Many chatting account can be added via Pidgin such as MSN, IRC, ICQ, and Google Talk. For those whose familiar with Linux, can also use Gadu-gadu or Bonjour.

User can also use Facebook account for chatting using Pidgin. Here is one advantage of Pidgin instead of other chatting applications. And here more features.

If you have problem signing your chatting account, why not use Pidgin instead of Meebo!

Pelaksanaan OSS Bantu Kerajaan Jimat RM32 Juta

PUTRAJAYA, 5 Nov (Bernama) — Pelaksanaan inisiatif perisian sumber terbuka (OSS) oleh agensi dan jabatan kerajaan membolehkan kerajaan menjimatkan RM32 juta, termasuk penjimatan sebanyak RM10 juta dalam projek perintis dan pelaksanaan OSS di 15 agensi sejak 2004.

Ketua Setiausaha Negara Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan berkata penjimatan itu turut merangkumi RM22 juta yang meliputi penggunaan perisian “OPenOffice” ke atas 10,682 komputer dan pengunaan 174 produk Open Source Competency Center (OSCC).

Katanya peningkatan penggunaan OSS mampu meningkatkan perkhidmatan teknologi komunikasi maklumat (ICT), sekaligus membangunkan industri ICT tempatan secara keseluruhan.

“Peningkatan ini mampu menyumbang kepada peningkatan Keluaran Dalam Negara Kasar (KDNK) serta membantu melonjakkan negara ke status negara maju dengan lebih cepat.

“Penggunaan OSS juga merupakan penyelesaian alternatif yang lebih kompetitif, saling beroperasi dan menjimatkan perbelanjaan pelaksanaan ICT,” katanya semasa berucap merasmikan Persidangan Perisian Sumber Terbuka Kerajaan Malaysia (MyGOSSCON) 2008 di Pusat Konvesyen Antarabangsa Putrajaya (PICC) di sini.

Teks ucapan beliau dibacakan oleh Ketua Pengarah Unit Pemodenan Tadbiran dan Perancangan Pengurusan Malaysia, Datuk Normah Md Yusof.

Mohd Sidek berkata adalah amat penting untuk jabatan dan agensi kerajaan mencari jalan untuk melakukan penjimatan dalam apa jua perbelanjaan, selaras dengan kedudukan ekonomi global yang kurang mantap pada ketika ini.

Beliau berkata penggunaan OSS tidak hanya terhad kepada jabatan dan agensi kerajaan, bahkan ia turut mampu meningkatkan perkhidmatan ICT institusi pengajian tinggi awam dan swasta (IPTA & IPTS) menerusi kolaborasi bersama sektor awam dan swasta.

Akademi IT Menerusi Kerjasama Dengan Microsoft

Semua IPTA Akan Mempunyai Akademi IT Menerusi Kerjasama Dengan Microsoft, Kata Khaled

KUALA LUMPUR, 31 Julai (Bernama) — Semua Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Awam (IPTA) di negara ini akan mempunyai Akademi Teknologi Maklumat (IT) mulai tahun depan bagi melahirkan pelajar yang lebih berdaya saing dan kompetitif dalam bidang itu, kata Menteri Pengajian Tinggi Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

Beliau berkata Akademi IT perlu ditubuhkan kerana ilmu asas dalam kurikulum IPTA berkenaan IT hari ini tidak mencukupi jika dibandingkan dengan perubahan IT yang terlalu mendadak dalam pasaran dunia.

Upgrade to Firefox 3 now!

Mozilla has released Firefox 3 with codename Gran Paradiso. Firefox is the most famous open source web browser currently. It has been downloaded by more than 8 million times for the first 24 hour realesing. The current total donwload times is more than 12 million.

This latest version is providing a lots of improvements for better performance, stablity and security. It is said 3 times faster than previous 2.0 version by using Gecko 1.9 rendering engine.
